What is a virtual card?

Budgetly provides both physical and virtual cards. What's the difference?

A virtual card a fully functional Visa card, just without the plastic.

They can live in your mobile wallet to be used anywhere that accepts contactless (NFC) payments or can simply remain in the Budgetly app to use when you need to make online purchases.

So what's the difference?

Virtual cards have a few key differences to a typical physical card.

Benefits of a virtual card?

  • Virtual cards are available immediately whereas a physical card needs to be sent via post. Physical cards can take up to 5 business days express post or 10 business days with standard post.
  • Virtual cards can be generated for single use purpose, if you wish.
    For example: it would increase security for online purchases on websites you don't trust.

Do I need to choose between virtual or physical cards?

No you don't, you can have an unlimited number of physical and/or virtual cards.

Physical and virtual cards have separate card numbers. You cannot have two cards [physical or virtual] with the same card number.

How can I see my virtual card details?

Go to your cards screen and navigate to your virtual card. Click on the eye icon in the bottom right hand corner of the card image to display all card details.

How can I pay with my virtual card using my mobile phone?

You can tap and pay with your virtual card by adding it to your mobile wallet.

How many virtual cards can I have?

The sky is the limit! If you have a few different subscriptions to come from different budgets, you may choose to have one virtual card per budget.
