Benefits of virtual cards

  • Available immediately after issue – no waiting for delivery.

  • Great for online purchases or subscriptions.

  • Can be frozen or cancelled instantly through the app.

  • No risk of physical loss or theft.

Benefits of physical cards

  • Allows in-store purchases via tap, insert, or swipe.

  • Ideal for staff who regularly shop in person.

  • Can be used where online-only cards aren’t accepted (e.g. some transport terminals or in-store terminals needing physical tap).

Things to keep in mind

  • Virtual cards can’t be used at physical terminals unless added to a mobile wallet (e.g. Apple Pay, Google Pay).

  • Click the svg-pathsvg-pathsvg-path icon to view the card details for virtual cards.
  • Physical cards take time to arrive and may need to be reissued if lost.

  • Both card types can be managed via the Budgetly mobile app.

How to issue a card

From the menu on the left, click Cards and then click the New card button, located at the top right.

  1. Choose the Card holder.
  2. Select a Virtual or Physical card.
  3. Card information:
    • Line 1 - Enter the name displayed on the card.
    • Line 2 - Enter additional information.
  4. Click the Request card button.

When choosing a physical card, you'll need to select an existing delivery address or choose Add new from the drop-down box to manually enter a new one. We recommend selecting Express post for faster delivery—your card will arrive sooner, and you’ll receive an Auspost tracking link within the card's details page, usually within 24 hours.
