If your card is locked after too many incorrect CVV attempts, you can unlock it yourself from the card detail page in Budgetly on the web (budgetly.io) — you no longer need to contact support. This is a desktop-only action.
Note: A CVV-locked card still shows as Active, so there’s no visible warning — the sign is that card payments keep getting declined even though funds and the budget are fine. To confirm the reason, check the action logs on desktop (see below).
Unlock your card
- Click Cards in the left menu.
- Select the card you want to unlock by clicking its last 4 digits.
- Open the 3-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of the card detail page.
- Choose Unlock CVV.
- Confirm to send the unlock request. You’ll see a confirmation once the card is unlocked.
Important: You can only unlock a card once every 24 hours. If you’ve already unlocked it in the last day, wait until the 24-hour window has passed before trying again.
Common questions
How do I know why a transaction was declined?
If you’re not sure why a payment was declined, sign in to Budgetly on the web at budgetly.io and check your action logs — they show the reason for every declined transaction. Action logs are only available on desktop, not in the mobile app. For a card locked by incorrect CVV attempts, you’ll see a log entry that reads: “Transaction declined as some details were incorrect or due to too many incorrect CVV attempts.” Entering the wrong CVV three or more times causes the lock.
Can an admin unlock my card for me?
Yes. Both the cardholder and admins can unlock a card. The same rules as PIN updates apply — you can unlock your own card, and an admin can unlock cards for their team from the Cards page.
Why can't I unlock my card again?
Unlocking is limited to once every 24 hours as a security measure. If you’ve already unlocked the card in the last day, wait until the 24-hour window has passed.
Is it safe to use Unlock CVV if my card isn't locked?
Yes. The action simply resets the incorrect-attempt counter to zero, so it’s safe to use even if the card wasn’t locked.
