How to set up MFA (authenticator app or SMS)

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your Budgetly account. You can choose between an authenticator app or SMS verification.

Choosing your MFA method

  • Click My profile in the sidebar.
  • Select the Security tab.
  • Click Set up MFA.
  • Choose Authenticator app or SMS.

Setting up with an authenticator app

  • Select Authenticator app.
  • Scan the QR code on screen with your app (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy).
  • Enter the 6-digit verification code from your app.
  • Click Verify.

Tip: Authenticator apps are more secure and reliable than SMS. They work even without mobile signal.

Setting up with SMS

  • Select SMS.
  • Confirm your mobile number.
  • Enter the verification code sent to your phone.
  • Click Verify.

When MFA is required

Your company admin can enforce MFA for all users. If MFA is required and you haven’t set it up, you’ll be redirected to the MFA setup page when you log in.

Important: If MFA is enforced by your company, you must complete setup before you can access any other part of Budgetly.

Common questions

Can I switch from SMS to an authenticator app later?
Yes. Go to My profile > Security, disable your current MFA method, then set up the new one.
What if I lose access to my authenticator app?
Contact support to have MFA reset on your account. You’ll need to set it up again once reset.
Can an admin disable MFA for a user?
Yes. Admins can disable MFA from the user’s detail page under the Security tab.
