How to set up MFA (authenticator app or SMS)

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your Budgetly account. You can choose between an authenticator app or SMS verification.

Choosing your MFA method

  1. Click My profile in the sidebar.
  2. Select the Security tab.
  3. Click Set up MFA (or navigate to My profile → Security → MFA).
  4. Choose your preferred method:
    • Authenticator app — use an app like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy.
    • SMS — receive a verification code via text message.

Setting up with an authenticator app

  1. Select Authenticator app.
  2. Scan the QR code displayed on screen with your authenticator app.
  3. Enter the 6-digit verification code from your app.
  4. Click Verify.

Tip: Authenticator apps are more secure and reliable than SMS. They work even without mobile signal.

Setting up with SMS

  1. Select SMS.
  2. Confirm your mobile number.
  3. Enter the verification code sent to your phone.
  4. Click Verify.

When MFA is required

Your company admin can enforce MFA for all users. If MFA is required and you haven’t set it up, you’ll be redirected to the MFA setup page when you log in.

Important: If MFA is enforced by your company, you must complete setup before you can access any other part of Budgetly.
