Connect Budgetly to Xero to sync transactions, receipts, categories, and tags automatically.
How to connect
- Click Settings in the sidebar, then select Xero.
- Click Connect to Xero.
- Log in to Xero and select your organisation.
- Allow Budgetly access — this lets us read your Chart of Accounts for category mapping.
- Create a new bank account in Xero for Budgetly transactions. Choose any name that doesn’t already exist in Xero.
- Map your Budgetly categories to your Xero Chart of Accounts. Each category maps to a Xero account.
- Click Save categories.
Optional: Map Xero Tracking Categories to tags (Premium)
- Navigate to Settings > Xero > Configure.
- Tick Map Tracking Categories to Budgetly Tags.
- Toggle on the tracking categories you want to bring across.
- Click Update.
Tip: Not sure what Tracking Categories are? See Xero’s guide on tracking categories.
Optional: Auto-reconcile transactions
By default, synced transactions need to be reconciled individually in Xero. You can enable Mark transactions as reconciled in Xero during setup to skip this step.
Note: Consult your accountant before enabling auto-reconciliation.
Common questions
Can I connect to more than one Xero organisation?
No. Budgetly connects to one Xero organisation at a time. To switch, contact support or reset the integration if no bank account has been set up yet.
Can I change my category mappings later?
Yes. Go to Settings > Xero > Configure > Edit categories at any time.
What Xero plans does the integration work with?
The integration works with all Xero plans that support bank feeds and API access.
