What are card skimmers?

Card skimmers are small devices criminals attach to ATMs to steal card details and PINs. The stolen data can be used for online fraud or to create counterfeit cards.

  • Cover your PIN when entering it at any terminal.
  • Tap your card instead of inserting it where possible.
  • Use ATMs inside bank branches rather than standalone machines.

Protecting card deliveries

Physical cards sent by post can be stolen from unsecured mailboxes.

  • Have cards delivered to a PO box or a secure address.
  • Lock your letterbox with a key or padlock.
  • Activate your card as soon as it arrives — an unactivated card in the wrong hands is still a risk.

Common questions

What should I do if I notice a transaction I don't recognise?
Freeze your card immediately from the app or desktop, then contact Budgetly support. You can also dispute the transaction.
Can I freeze my card if I suspect fraud?
Yes. Freeze it instantly from the Cards screen in the app or at budgetly.io. This blocks all new transactions while you investigate.
Does Budgetly monitor for suspicious transactions?
Yes. Budgetly has fraud detection built in. If something looks unusual, you may be asked to verify the transaction via a one-time password (OTP).
