Understanding budget cycles

A budget cycle controls how often the spending limit resets. You choose the cycle when creating a budget.

One-time

A one-time budget doesn’t reset. Users spend until the amount is depleted. An admin can manually top it up if needed.

Important: A one-time budget cannot be converted to a recurring cycle later. Choose carefully when creating it.

Daily

The budget resets every day at 12am. Available on Premium plans only.

Weekly

The budget resets every Monday at 12am by default. Premium users can choose a different day of the week.

Fortnightly

The budget resets every two weeks on your chosen day at 12am. Available on Premium plans only.

Monthly

The most commonly used cycle. Resets on the 1st of each month at 12am by default. Premium users can choose a specific day of the month.

Carry-over

Each cycle type supports carry-over. When enabled, unspent balance rolls into the next period and the limit is added on top. When disabled, the balance resets to the full limit.

Common questions

Can I change the cycle on an existing budget?
Yes, unless it’s a one-time budget. Edit the budget and select a new cycle — it takes effect at the start of the next period.
What time does the budget reset?
All cycles reset at 12am (midnight) Australian time.
Can I set a custom reset day on Essentials?
Weekly and monthly budgets are available on Essentials, but custom reset days require Premium. Essentials resets on Monday (weekly) or the 1st (monthly).
