If a supplier doesn’t accept card payments, you can still pay them from Budgetly by creating a bill and paying by bank transfer, PayID, or BPAY instead.
When to use this
Since 1 October 2026, Australian businesses can no longer add a surcharge to card payments. In response, some suppliers may prefer to be paid by a direct method such as bank transfer or BPAY rather than by card. If a supplier asks to be paid this way, you don’t need to arrange payment outside Budgetly — pay the invoice as a bill and the supplier is paid directly into their account.
How the payment reaches your supplier
A bill pays your supplier directly into their account using the payment details you hold for them. No card is involved, so there’s nothing for the supplier to decline or surcharge.
| Payment method | What your supplier receives |
|---|---|
| Bank transfer | A deposit to their account using their BSB and account number |
| PayID | A transfer to their registered email, mobile, ABN, or organisation ID |
| BPAY | A BPAY payment using their biller code and your customer reference number (CRN) |
Note: The method depends on the payment details saved against the supplier. You set this up once when you add the supplier, and every future bill reuses it.
How to pay a supplier this way
- Add the supplier with their bank transfer or BPAY details — see How to manage suppliers.
- Open Bills in the sidebar and select New bill.
- Pick the Supplier, then upload their invoice so Budgetly extracts the amount and details.
- Confirm the budget, amount, and payment details, then choose Pay now or Schedule.

Tip: Add an address under Send remittance to so your supplier gets an email confirming the payment, the same way a card receipt would reassure them.
