Inbox FAQs

This FAQ answers common questions about the Budgetly inbox, including what it is, the types of messages it contains, how notifications work, and how messages are managed.

What is the Budgetly inbox?

The inbox is a section in the Budgetly app (web and mobile) where you can see receipts, money requests, and approval-related messages. It replaces most one-off emails with real-time, actionable prompts.

What types of messages are included?

At launch, the inbox includes:

  • Receipt reminders (2 hours and 24 hours after a transaction)

  • Money request notifications (such as top-ups or fund requests)

More workflows will be added in future updates.

What plans is this feature available on?

All plans include the inbox feature.

Do I need to turn this on?

No. The inbox is available by default for all users on all plans. You will receive messages when they apply to you, such as after a transaction or when an approval request is assigned to you. On mobile, ensure you have the latest version of the Budgetly app installed.

Where can I find the inbox?

  • On web: in the left-hand menu

  • On mobile: from the main menu at the bottom of the screen

Will I still get email notifications?

Initially, existing email notifications will continue while being phased out. Emails are not sent for the new 2-hour and 24-hour receipt reminders.

The inbox replaces most email alerts, especially for receipt follow-ups and approvals. Emails will still be used for account-level security and system alerts. Future updates will include customisable notification preferences.

What are push notifications used for?

Push notifications alert you on your phone when something important needs your attention, such as a pending approval or a missed receipt reminder. Tapping a push notification opens the inbox or the relevant screen in the app.

How often will I be reminded to upload a receipt?

If you make a transaction and do not upload a receipt, Budgetly sends:

  • Instant “Add receipt” notification (existing)

  • 2-hour reminder

  • 24-hour follow-up reminder

Reminders stop if the receipt is uploaded or marked as not required.

What happens if push notifications are disabled on my phone?

Messages will still appear in your inbox.

What happens if I ignore a notification?

Messages remain in your inbox for 45 days. You can:

  • Mark them as read or unread

  • Act on them directly

How do I resolve inbox messages?

Messages are marked as read when you tap or click the call-to-action button in the app. You can also mark them as read manually. Future updates will include auto-resolving when the related action is completed.

Can I customise which messages I see?

Not yet. Inbox messages are based on your role and permissions. Admins will not see user-only messages, and users will not see approvals they are not involved in.

Will the inbox support comments or replies?

Not yet. In this release, messages are one-way and action-driven. Interactive features such as comments and task assignment are planned for future phases.

Are inbox messages stored?

Inbox messages are stored for 45 days from creation. They remain visible in your inbox during that time, even if read. After 45 days, they are automatically removed to keep the inbox relevant and lightweight.
